Huntingdon splits with Covenant

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga.  – The Huntingdon baseball team split a doubleheader with Covenant on Saturday to close out a three-game conference series.

Huntingdon won the first game 11-3 but came up short 6-5 in the final game.

The Hawks put together 25 hits in the two games. Hall Billings, Dawson KubaNick Swisher and Wes Powell combined for 16 hits, 10 RBIs and 13 runs in the two games.

Billings was 4-for-5 with four runs, four RBIs, one double and two stolen bases. Kuba had four hits, five RBIs, two runs and two doubles, Swisher had four hits, three runs, one RBI, a home run and a double and Powell had four hits and four runs.

In Game 1, Huntingdon built an 8-1 lead in the first five innings before adding three final runs in the ninth inning. Swisher's solo home run and Kuba's three-run double highlighted a four-run fourth inning.

Kuba was 3-for-5 with three RBIs, two runs and two doubles in the game, Billings was 3-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs and Powell was 3-for-5 with three runs. Swisher had one home run, two hits, two runs and one RBI.

Colton Clark and Ryan Greene each had one RBI, Cullen Stafford and Ryan Meadows each had one run and Colin Whibbs had two hits.

Carden Mellown (2-4) pitched a complete game for the win, striking out eight, walking three, and allowing eight hits and three runs in nine innings. Patrick Sawyer (2-3) took the loss in Game 2.

In Game 2, Huntingdon carried a 5-3 lead into the eighth inning before Covenant scored three runs.

Swisher had two hits and scored one run, Kuba drove in two runs and Billings scored two runs and drove in one run in the game. Clark and Greene each had one RBI and Stafford and Powell each scored one run.
