Huntingdon beats Maryville for Conville’s 400th win

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon baseball team set the tone early and beat Maryville  11-3 on Friday night to help head coach D.J. Conville reach a milestone win.

The victory was the 400th of Conville's career. Conville, in his 17th season as Huntingdon's head coach, is the program's all-time winningest coach.

Carden Mellown (3-4) earned the win in 8 2/3 innings, striking out eight, walking four and allowing 11 hits and three runs. Mellown, who recently passed Alex Sanford to become the Hawks' NCAA-era leader for career strikeouts, now has 247 strikeouts in 276 1/3 career innings. Sanford set the previous record with 229 strikeouts in 190 1/3 career innings.

Huntingdon took control against Maryville with six runs in the first three innings. The Hawks added one run in the fourth inning and one run in the sixth inning to carry an 8-0 lead into the seventh inning.

Maryville scored three runs in the seventh inning before Huntingdon closed the scoring with three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning.

Andrew Knight finished 3-for-5 with two runs and an RBI, Hall Billings had two hits, two RBIs, two runs and a double and Ryan Greene had two RBIs, two runs and a double. Nick Swisher had two hits, a solo home run, two runs and one RBI and Wes Powell had two hits, two runs, one RBI and a double.

Colton Clark finished with two hits, one RBI, one run and a triple and Colin Whibbs scored one run.
