Huntingdon comes up short at Brevard

BREVARD, N.C. – The Huntingdon baseball team led early but lost to Brevard 8-5 on Friday.

Andrew Knight homered in his first two at-bats to help Huntingdon build a four-run lead in the first four innings. Colin Whibbs' one-run single and Knight's two-run home run in the first inning made it 3-0 and Knight's solo home run in the third inning made it 4-0.

Brevard scored one run in the bottom of the third inning before Dawson Kuba drove in one run in the top of the fourth to make it a 5-1 game. But Brevard answered with five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Brevard added two final runs in the seventh inning.   

Knight finished 2-for-4 with the two home runs, three RBIs and two runs and Kuba was 2-for-4 with one RBI. Whibbs had one RBI and one run and Hall Billings and Ryan Greene each scored one run.

Carden Mellown (3-5) took the loss in six innings, striking out five, walking three, allowing six runs and nine hits. Zach Johnson pitched the final two innings, striking out three and allowing two runs and two hits.

 

Records: Huntingdon (13-17, 4-8 USA South); Brevard (11-13, 5-5 USA South)            

 

Coming Up: Huntingdon and Brevard will close out the three-game conference series with a doubleheader on Saturday. Game 1 is set for 11 a.m. (Central).
