Hawks fall in doubleheader at Brevard

BREVARD, N.C. – The Huntingdon baseball team lost both games of a conference doubleheader at Brevard on Saturday.

Huntingdon lost 7-3 in Game 1 and lost 11-2 in the final game. Game 1 was a scheduled seven-inning game.

In the first game, Huntingdon only trailed 2-1 before Brevard scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. The Hawks scored two runs in the sixth inning but Brevard closed out the win.

Colton Clark and Jake Elrod each had one RBI and Nick Swisher, Dawson Kuba and Adams Bragg each scored one run. Ryan Smith (2-1) took the loss in three innings of relief.

In Game 2, Huntingdon again only trailed 2-1 before Brevard pulled ahead in the middle innings. Brevard scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning and five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Wes Powell had two hits, one RBI and one run in the second game and Andrew Knight had one RBI and one run. Elrod had two hits. Josh Stevens (0-2) took the loss in 2 2/3 innings.

With 202 career hits, Powell is just the second Hawk to record 200 career hits during the NCAA era. His 144 career runs are the third most for a Huntingdon player during the NCAA era.
