Hawks Run Rule MUW, Sweep Firehouse Classic
Montgomery, Ala.-Huntingdon Baseball was dominant in a 20-5 win over Mississippi University for Women.
The Hawks fell behind early with an RBI groundout in the top of the first to give MUW a 1-0 lead. The Owls added another run in the 2nd inning off of an error but the Hawks offense came to life in the bottom of the 2nd.
Daniel Patton reached on a fielder's choice, scoring Innes MacKay and Hall Billings. Colin Whibbs' 2 RBI double gave the Hawks a 4-2 lead. Whibbs came around to score on a passed ball before Cade Morgan's RBI single to right field, making it 6-2. MUW added 2 runs in the third inning with back to back RBI singles, making it 6-4.
Andrew Knight hit a 2-run homerun in the third to give the Hawks an 8-4 lead. Noah Phillips reached on a fielder's choice, bringing in Daniel Patton with an error by the catcher. Daniel Phillips had an RBI single in the third to make it 10-4. Cade Morgan's RBI double made it 12-4 to end the 3rd inning.
In the 5th inning, Noah Phillips had an RBI single followed by Daniel Phillps' RBI single, making it 14-4. Daniel Phillips scored on a passed ball before Hall Billings collected an RBI single. Innes Mackay scored on a passed ball to make it 17-4 and Daniel Patton brought in a run on a fielder's choice. Still in the 5th inning, Noah Phillips reached on a fielder's choice to bring in Hall Billings. Daniel Phillips RBI single capped off an 8-run 5th inning to give the Hawks a 20-4 lead.
The Owls added a run in the top of the 6th but the Hawks secured the 7th-inning run rule.
Colton Clark earned the win, pitching 2.0 innings and allowing 2 runs on 1 hit with 2 strikeouts. Daniel Phillips was 4-4 with 3 runs and 3 RBI. Colin Whibbs was 3-4 with 3 runs and 2 RBI. Andrew Knight was 3-4 with 3 runs and 2 RBI.
The Hawks travel to Oglethorpe for a single game on Tuesday, February 22nd. First pitch is set for 4:00 PM CST.
