Hawks Sweep Doubleheader Against MUW

Montgomery, Ala.-Huntingdon Baseball swept the doubleheader against MUW, taking the first game 11-2 and the second game 9-6. The Hawks are now 8-7 heading into conference play..

Game 1:

The Hawks defeated MUW 11-2 in game one of the doubleheader. Dawson Kuba's 2 RBI single to center field in the second inning gave the Hawks a 2-0 lead. Andrew Knight had an RBI groundout to make it 3-0 before Colin Whibbs doubled to right field, scoring 2 and making it 5-0. 

MUW added a run in the 3rd inning, making it 5-1. Cade Morgan's sacrifice fly in the third inning gave the Hawks a 6-1 lead. In the 4th inning, Whibbs reached on an error, bringing in a run to make it 7-1. 

In the 5th inning, Dawson Kuba's RBI single gave the Hawks an 8-1 lead. Whibbs reached on an error to bring in the Hawks' 9th run. Cade Morgan reached on a fielder's choice to bring in 2 runs, giving the Hawks an 11-1 lead. MUW added a run in the 7th inning but the Hawks held on for the win. 

Eddie Patterson earned the win, improving to 4-1, pitching 5.0 innings and allowing 1 run on 4 hits with 7 strikeouts.

Andrew Knight was 2-4 with 1 run and 1 RBI. Colton Clark was 2-4 with 2 runs. Dawson Kuba was 2-3 with 1 run and 3 RBI.

Game 2:

The Hawks defeated MUW 9-6 in game two of the doubleheader. 

MUW took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning with back-to-back RBI singles. The Hawks answered back in the bottom of the first. Colin Whibbs had a 2-RBI double and came into score on an error by the catcher. 

In the bottom of the 5th, Whibbs had an RBI single to make it 4-2. MUW added 2 runs in the 6th and 1 in the 7th to take a 5-4 lead. In the bottom of the 7th, Cullen Stafford had an RBI single to tie the game at 5. The Hawks regained the lead with a bases loaded passed ball to bring in Colton Clark.

MUW tied the game in the 8th inning with a solo homerun. In the bottom of the 8th, Dawson Kuba's RBI single gave the Hawks a 7-6 lead. Colton Clark's RBI double to left field made it 8-6. Cullen Stafford's RBI single to left secured the 9-6 win.

Seth Killam earned his third win of the season, pitching 4.0 innings and allowing 2 runs on 6 hits with 4 strikeouts. Tucker Duke earned his third save, pitching 2.0 innings and allowing 1 run on 2 hits with 1 strikeout.

Colton Clark was 2-4 with 3 runs and 1 RBI. Colin Whibbs was 3-3 with 3 RBI. Cullen Stafford was 4-4 with 2 RBI. The Hawks collected 12 hits and 3 walks. 

The Hawks are back in action at home on Friday, March 18th, against Covenant in the conference opener. First pitch is set for 6:00 PM CST.
