Hawks Take Down Covenant in Conference Opener

Montgomery, Ala.-Huntingdon Baseball defeated Covenant, 7-4

Covenant took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning with an RBI groundout and a wild pitch. The Hawks answered back in the bottom of the second with an RBI single by Cullen Stafford and a fielder's choice by Andrew Knight.

Covenant added 2 more runs in the third inning with an RBI double and an RBI groundout.

In the bottom of the third, Cullen Stafford brought in a run with an RBI single to center field. Daniel Patton had a sacrifice fly to tie the game at 4. 

Stafford's RBI single to right field gave the Hawks a 5-4 lead in the 5th inning. Daniel Phillips scored on Daniel Patton's strikeout on the throw to first by the catcher to give the Hawks a 6-4 lead. 

The Hawks added a run in the 8th with an RBI groundout by Colin Whibbs to make it 7-4.

Seth Killam started the game, pitching 4.0 innings and allowing 4 runs on 8 hits with 3 strikeouts. Hall Billings earned the win, pitching 5.0 innings and allowing no runs on 3 hits with 5 strikeouts.

Daniel Phillips was 2-2 with 3 runs and a walk. Cullen Stafford was 3-4 with 3 RBI. Colton Clark was 2-4 with a walk.

The Hawks will face Covenant at home in a doubleheader on Monday, March 21st. Game times are to be determined.
