Hawks Sweep Covenant
Montgomery, Ala.-Huntingdon Baseball swept the series with Covenant, taking both games of the doubleheader, 10-6 and 11-4. Both games were 7 inning games.
Game 1:
The Hawks defeated Covenant, 10-6, in game 1 of the doubleheader.
In the second inning, Daniel Phillips scored on a balk to take a 1-0 lead. Covenant took a 2-1 lead in the third inning.
The Hawks offense came to life in the third inning, adding 7 runs. Colin Whibbs had an RBI single to tie the game at 2. Innes Mackay was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to give the Hawks a 3-2 lead. Daniel Phillips was also hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, making it 4-2. Cade Morgan had an RBI single to center field to make it 5-2. Cullen Stafford's sacrifice fly made it 6-2. Daniel Phillips scored when Cade Morgan was caught stealing to give the Hawks a 7-2 lead. Daniel Patton had a solo homerun to make it 8-2.
In the 5th inning, Morgan scored on a wild pitch to give the Hawks a 9-2 lead. Whibbs' RBI single in the 6th inning made it 10-2. Covenant added 4 runs in the 7th inning to come within 4 but the Hawks held on for the win.
Eddie Patterson earned his 5th win of the season, pitching 6.1 innings and allowing 6 runs on 10 hits with 4 strikeouts.
Game 2:
The Hawks won game 2, 11-4.
Covenant took a 2-0 lead into the 5th inning. Dawson Kuba's RBI single to right field made it 2-1. Andrew Knight reached on a fielder's choice and brought in a run to tie the game. Colton Clark had a sacrifice fly to give the Hawks a 3-2 lead.
Covenant tied the game in the 6th inning with an RBI single. Cullen Stafford had a solo home run to make it 4-3. Daniel Patton's RBI single brought in 2, making it 6-3. Cade Morgan scored on a wild pitch to make it 7-3. Clark had a 2 RBI single to give the Hawks a 9-3 lead. Colin Whibbs reached on an error to bring in the Hawks' 10th run. Daniel Phillips had an RBI groundout to make it 11-3.
Covenant added a run in the 7th but the Hawks secured the win.
Colton Clark earned the win, pitching 5.1 innings and allowing 3 runs on 6 hits with 3 strikeouts.
The Hawks are back in action at home tomorrow, March 22nd, against Oglethorpe. Game time is set for 2:30 PM CST.
