Hawks Split with Berea, Take Series

Berea, Ky.-Huntingdon Baseball split with Berea, dropping game 1, 3-2, and taking game 2, 20-0.

Game 1:

The Hawks dropped game 1, 3-2.

Berea took a 1-0 lead in the 4th inning with a sacrifice fly. In the 6th inning, Colin Whibbs had an RBI double to tie the game at 1. Daniel Phillips had an RBI single to give the Hawks a 2-1 lead. Berea took the lead with an RBI double and RBI single in the bottom of the 6th that the Hawks were not able to come back from.

Eddie Patterson suffered the loss, pitching 6.0 innings and allowing 3 runs on 6 hits with 7 strikeouts. Andrew Knight was 2-2 with 1 run. Colin Whibbs was 2-3 with 1 run and 1 RBI.

Game 2:

The Hawks defeated Berea, 20-0, in game 2. 

A 14-run first inning gave the Hawks a lead that would hold. Innes Mackay had an RBI double followed by Daniel Phillips' 2-RBI double, making it 3-0. Ryan Greene had a 2-run homerun to extend the lead to 5-0. Andrew Knight was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to give the Hawks a 6-0 lead. Colton Clark had a 2-RBI single to make it 8-0. Mackay walked with the baes loaded followed by a 2-RBI single by Daniel Phillips to make it 11-0. Cade Morgan drove in 2 more runs with a single, making it 13-0. Cody Hollis had an RBI groundout to give the Hawks a 14-0 lead. 

In the third inning, Clark's sacrifice fly made it 15-0. Mackay had a 2-RBI double, extending the lead to 17-0. Ryan Greene had a sacrifice fly in the 5th inning to make it 18-0. Daniel Patton's 2-RBI single made it 20-0.

Mackay was 2-3 with 3 runs and 4 RBI. Whibbs was 1-2 with 3 runs and 2 walks. Daniel Phillips was 3-4 with 3 runs and 4 RBI. Cade Morgan was 2-4 with 1 run and 2 RBI. Cody Hollis was 2-3 with 2 runs and 1 RBI. The Hawks totaled 15 hits. 

Chris Williams earned the win, pitching 5.0 innings and allowing no runs on 4 hits with 5 strikeouts.

The Hawks are back in action at home on Tuesday, March 29th, when they take on Birmingham Southern. First pitch is set for 6:00 PM CST.
