Hawks Take Down Piedmont

Demorest, Ga.-Huntingdon Baseball defeated Piedmont, 10-7.

Daniel Phillips gave the Hawks a 1-0 lead in the first inning with an RBI single but Piedmont tied it in the bottom of the inning with a solo homerun. The Lions took a 2-1 lead in the second inning with a fielder's choice and an error. 

In the third inning, Daniel Phillips' 3-run homerun made it 4-2 for the Hawks. Piedmont added a run in the third inning on a sacrifice fly. Andrew Knight had a 2-run homerun in the 4th inning, making it 6-3. 

Daniel Phillips' second homerun of the game, a 2-run homerun in the 5th inning, gave the Hawks an 8-3 lead. 2 runs by Piedmont in the 6th inning on a sacrifice fly and RBI double made it 8-5.

Piedmont added 2 runs in the 7th inning with a 2-run homerun to come within 1. The Hawks added a run in the 8th inning with an RBI triple by Hall Billings, making it 9-7. Noah Phillips had an RBI single in the 9th inning, extending the lead to 10-7.

Chris Williams earned his 3rd win of the season, pitching 5.0 innings and allowing 3 runs on 4 hits with 5 strikeouts. Tucker Duke collected the save, pitching 1 inning and allowing no runs on 1 hit with 2 strikeouts.

Daniel Phillips was 4-5 with 2 runs and 6 RBI, including 2 homeruns. Hall Billings was 2-4 with 1 run and 1 RBI. Andrew Knight was 1-3 with 2 runs, 2 RBI, 2 walks, and a homerun. The Hawks collected 11 hits and 4 walks.

The Hawks face Piedmont tomorrow, April 23rd, in game 2 of the USA South Conference series. First pitch is set for 2:00 PM CST.
