Hawks Take Down Millsaps in Day One of BSC Tournament

Birmingham, Alabama – In day one of the Birmingham Southern Tournament, the Hawks increased their record to 2-0 with a 7-5 win over Millsaps College.

In the bottom of the third the Majors hit a sacrifice fly to bring in a runner and take the lead at 1-0. Huntingdon came alive in the fourth inning with a Noah Phillips single to center field that brought in a runner. A wild pitch by Millsaps gave the Hawks another run to gain the lead (2-1). With one out, Daniel Patton singled down the left field line to bat in the Hawks final run of the fourth (3-1).

Scoring at the bottom of the fourth, Millsaps brought the game within one run heading into an empty fifth inning. With the Hawks first two batters reaching base in the sixth, a Millsaps pitching change was folowed by a Patton single to right field that batted in two runners to increase their lead (5-2). Hall Billings followed suit to bring in Patton before taking the field (6-2).

Jacob McFarling got the start for the Hawks on the mound pitching 5 innings and giving up 6 hits and 2 runs. He was relieved by Hall Billings who took the mound in the 6th inning and allowed three runs on four hits in his two innings pitched. 

A final run in the 8th for the Hawks gave them their last run of the day with a single from Baron Brack.

The Hawks defense stepped back up with transfer pitcher Bradley Ward stepping out on the field in the bottom of the eighth inning. Ward allowed 2 hits, 0 runs and struck one batter out to get the save for the Hawks.

The Hawks return to action tomorrow in day two of the Birmingham Southern Tournament at Neal Posey Field in Montgomery, Alabama as they take on #24 East Texas Baptist University at 3:00 PM CST.
