Hawks Defeat #24 East Texas Baptist in BSC Tournament

Montgomery, Alabama – In day two of the Birmingham Southern Tournament, the Hawks (3-0 overall) took down #24 ranked ETBU (2-3 overall) with a score of 6-5.

The Hawks found their way to the board early in the first inning after a single to right field from Colin Whibbs that brought in Daniel Phillips (1-0). With Noah Phillips up to bat, he grounded into a double play that allowed Seth Killam to score for the Hawks and go up 2-0 heading into the second inning.

Pitcher Michael Driver claimed success in the second and third innings while he only saw 7 batters and allowed one hit before Huntingdon took the plate again. Cade Morgan and Innes McKay singled in the bottom of the third to score two runs for the Hawks that lifted them up 4-0 against top ranked ETBU.

A two-run homerun in the top of the fifth by ETBU landed them on the scoreboard and then a wild pitch plated the third run for the Tigers as they climbed their way back with a score of 4-3. ETBU tied the game in the top of the sixth with an error by the Hawks and Tucker Duke went to the mound to close out the inning.

The Hawks were able to end their scoring drought after a double to center field from Daniel Phillips that led in Jordan Raley (5-4). Gavin Gomez came in for Huntingdon and got out the first three batters in the top of the seventh. McKay batted in his second runner of the night to give the Hawks the two run lead going into the 8th inning (6-4).

A sacrifice fly from ETBU would be their final opportunity to score and make a run to regain the lead but the Hawks defense held off the top ranked team to win by one in day two of the BSC Tournament.
