Hawks Fall to #4 Birmingham Southern

Birmingham, Alabama – The Hawks, now 3-1 overall fell to the Panthers of Birmingham Southern in their final day of the BSC tournament 16-8.

The Hawks started off rocky as they allowed a three-run homerun in the bottom of the first that was followed by a single to bat in another runner for the Panthers to take the early 4-0 lead. Huntingdon found their way to the board in the top of the second as Innes Mackay reached on a fielder's choice to bat in Daniel Patton (4-1). With bases loaded Evan Clark walked the next BSC batter to give the Panthers their four-run lead again (5-1).

Mackay again stepped up for the Hawks with another rbi to send in Noah Phillips. Jordan Raley followed with a single to bring Daniel Patton across the plate and cut the lead to two (5-3). In the bottom of the fourth, BSC answered with a two run single of their own to increase the lead before heading to the fifth inning.

Baron Brack was the next Hawk to score as he advanced on an error from the Panthers. Raley found his second rbi of the night as he singled to right field, bringing in Colin Whibbs (7-5). With Seth Killiam on the mound for the Hawks he allowed one run in the fifth off a single to left field before the Hawks returned to the plate (8-5).

The sixth inning was huge for Huntingdon as they were able to bring the game within one run. An error by the BSC third baseman scored Daniel Phillips and Patton singled to the right side to bring in Whibbs (8-7). However, Birmingham Southern's 4 run seventh inning stunned the Hawks with a two run double and two run single to extend their lead (12-7).

After Raley was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to score Patton in the top of the eighth inning, the rest of the eighth was claimed by the Panthers as they added four more runs.

The Hawks return to action Tuesday February 21st against Oglethorpe at 4:00 PM CST in Montgomery, Alabama.
