Hawks Push Past Millsaps in Walk Off Win

Montgomery, Alabama – The Hawks, now 8-2 overall defeated the Majors of Millsaps in eleven innings, 7-6.

The Hawks struggled throughout the first seven and a half innings as the Millsaps pitcher held them to 4 hits. Offensively the Majors took the lead off a two-run triple in the top of the second and scored their third run off a single to center field (3-0). Millsaps again scored on a two-run single in the top of the seventh and found their final run off a passed ball in the eighth, then it was the Hawks turn to come alive.

Down 6-0, Tucker Duke came to the mound in the 6th for the Hawks. Duke struck out three batters and played a key role for Huntingdon defensively in the extra innings. When the Hawks were not able to score, Duke would hold off the Majors in return.

Offensively Huntingdon began to find a rhythm in the bottom of the eighth inning. After a Colin Whibbs and Daniel Patton single, Cade Morgan followed with his own single to bring in Whibbs for their first run of the game. An RBI off a fielders choice from Colby Cox scored Patton. The bases were then loaded after Jordan Raley was hit by a pitch and Morgan advanced home off a passed ball (6-3). With two outs, Daniel Phillips knocked a two run double to left field to bring the game within one (6-5). Momentum on the Hawks side, Jabez Sampson tied the game with a single to score Phillips and end the remarkable eighth inning.

The defense for both teams stood strong in the ninth to force extra innings until Duke got out the first three batters of the eleventh inning and the Hawks took the plate for the final time. Patton walked and Morgan doubled to left field to push Patton to third base in scoring position. Cox was intentionally walked, and the Hawks found the bases loaded with no outs. Raley stepped to the plate and hit a walk off single to secure the comeback win for the Hawks.
