Hawks Strike Back to Earn Win over Castleton

Montgomery, Alabama – The Hawks (9-3 overall), defeated Castleton in a comeback fashion with a score of 7-5.

After a slow first inning, Castleton came alive at the top of the second. They scored four runs off four hits. The Hawks also scored a run in the second inning after singles from Cade Morgan and Matthew Robinson put them on base, Morgan would score off an error to cut the lead to three (4-1).

Jabez Sampson reached on an error in the top of the third and later scored by a single from Noah Phillips (4-2). Castleton refused to let the Hawks get any closer as they pushed their lead back to three in the top of the seventh inning. Huntingdon responded when Daniel Phillips batted in Christian Lasecki heading into the eighth inning.

As the chances for the Hawks to come back from a 5-3 deficit with two innings remaining looked dim, Seth Killam replaced Jacob McFarling on the mound to try and spark energy for the Hawks; and that is exactly what he did. With one on base, Killam's defense put out the next batter and he followed with two strikeouts to send the Hawks to the plate.

Colin Whibbs struck first with a single to center field to begin the comeback. N. Phillips followed with a single and Daniel Patton walked to load the bases. With one out, designated hitter Matthew Robinson came to the plate and proved why he holds that position as he smacked a three run double to right field to secure the lead for the Hawks (6-5). Lasecki followed with a double of his own to bring in Robinson and create a two run cushion before Killam headed back out to the mound.

The first Castleton batter earned a single to right field and the next three batters saw a strikeout, flyout and groundout to lift the Hawks to a comeback victory.
