Hawks Baseball Drops Close Contest to Emory

Atlanta, Georgia – The Hawks (10-5 overall), fell to Emory University in their midweek matchup 12-10.

To begin the game, Daniel Phillips singled down the third base line and Jabez Sampson walked. Colin Whibbs followed that walk with a fielder's choice to get on base and push D. Phillips to third in scoring position. Noah Phillips flied out to right field to bring in D. Phillips for the Hawks first run and a single from Cade Morgan brought in Whibbs before the Hawks headed to the field up 2-0.

With Bradley Ward starting on the mound for the Hawks, he gave up 3 runs and two hits in the first inning and was relieved by Sam Tompkins in the second after the Hawks found themselves down 7-3.

Huntingdon scored another run late in the sixth inning after N. Phillips singled to left field to bat in Sampson (7-4). Tompkins continued to hold his own on the mound and allowed no runs for the Eagles through the sixth inning.

Eddie Patterson entered the game for the Hawks in the bottom of the seventh to close out the inning on the mound and the Hawks took the plate looking for runs. N. Phillips delivered with a two run homerun to bring the game within one (7-6).

A huge five run inning for Emory boosted their lead back up as the Hawks continued to work from behind (12-6). In the ninth, Matthew Robinson started the lineup right with a homerun to give the Hawks some momentum (12-7). With the bases loaded after three singles, Whibbs reached on a fielder's choice again to score Jordan Raley and D. Phillips scored off an error to bring the game within three (12-9). With two outs, N. Phillips singled to bring in Huntingdon's last run of the night as the last batter struck out to end the game 12-10.

The Hawks return to action for their first conference game of the season at Covenant on Friday March 17th and Saturday March 18th. Game times for the weekend are as follows, 2:00 PM CST on Friday the 17th and 11:00 AM and 2:00 PM CST on Saturday the 18th.
