Baseball Drops Pair of Conference Games to Covenant

Lookout Mountain, Georgia – The Hawks (10-7 overall, 2-2 CCS), fell to Covenant (6-7 overall, 2-0 CCS) in their first Collegiate Conference of the South matchup.

Game One: Covenant 5 – Huntingdon 3

After a slow first four innings, Christian Lasecki hit a homerun to begin the scoring for the game in the top of the fifth (1-0). Daniel Patton hit a double in the top of the sixth to get on base and Jabez Sampson followed with a double of his own to bring in Patton before giving the Scots a turn at the plate.

Starting pitcher, Jacob McFarling held off the Scots until the bottom of the sixth when Covenant scored two runs to quickly tie the game. McFarling was relieved by Sam Tompkins on the mound as the Scots scored off a wild pitch to take the lead at 3-2 in the seventh.

Noah Phillips and Patton singled in the top of the eighth inning as Sampson headed to the plate where he hit his second double of the game to score N. Phillips and tie the game at three.

Seth Killam came to the mound for the Hawks to finish the game and allowed two runs on three hits to give the Scots the lead (5-3). Huntingdon took the plate for the final time in the ninth inning but was unable to answer the Scots runs.

Game Two: Covenant 10 – Huntingdon 4

Colin Whibbs singled down the right field line with two outs to bring Noah Phillips up to bat. N. Phillips doubled to send in Whibbs and score the first run of the game (1-0). Starting on the mound for the Hawks, Hall Billings gave up three hits and two runs in the bottom of the first to give the Scots the lead at 2-1.

After the Hawks turn at the plate the Scots continued to convert runs after a two run triple and a one run double increased their lead to 5-1.

Parker Szush replaced Billings on the mound and held the Scots scoreless until the bottom of the fourth when the Scots hit a homerun that was followed by a single to score another run (7-1).

The Hawks came back alive in the fifth inning as the bases were loaded with one out. A sacrifice fly from Daniel Patton scored D. Phillips and a single from Cade Morgan scored Dawson Kuba to cut the lead to four runs (7-3).

Two more runs for Covenant, one being a homerun pushed the lead back to six runs as Michael Driver replaced Szush on the mound in the bottom of the fifth.

Baron Brack got his turn at the plate where he capitalized with a homerun in the top of the eighth inning as he tried to spark some energy for the Hawks. However, the Scots answered with a run of their own in the bottom of the eighth and Huntingdon could not make their way across the plate in the top of the ninth as they fell to the Scots.
