Baseball Splits with Berea at Home

Montgomery, Alabama – The Hawks (12-8 overall, 1-3 CCS), split with Berea (5-18 overall, 1-4 CCS) in a CCS matchup.

Game One: Huntingdon 8 – Berea 0

Starting on the mound for the Hawks, Jacob McFarling held off the Mountaineers for six innings. Offensively, Huntingdon found light in the fourth after Innes Mackay reached on a fielder's choice and Christian Lasecki singled to bring Daniel Phillips to the plate. D. Phillips singled to bring the in first run for the Hawks (1-0) and freshman, Jabez Sampson followed the one run single with a huge three run homerun for an early 4-0 lead over Berea.

Seth Killam relieved McFarling on the mound to close out the game while allowing no runs on two hits. Again, a scoring frenzy for the Hawks flourished in the seventh inning. Colin Whibbs walked and Noah Phillips tripled to bring in Whibbs (5-0). A Huntingdon two run homerun from Daniel Patton increased their lead to seven before Innes Mackay hit a sacrifice fly to center field that scored Cade Morgan for the final run of the game.

Game Two: Huntingdon 8 – Berea 12

Berea took advantage with their first at bat, scoring one run off two hits on Hawks starting pitcher Hall Billings. When the Hawks took their turn at the plate, Daniel Phillips reached on a catcher's interference and Colin Whibbs followed with reaching on an error that scored D. Phillips to tie the game at one. Berea went back on top in the second inning after a Hawks error (2-1). Another error by Huntingdon in the fourth inning scored a Mountaineers runner. In the bottom of the fourth a sacrifice fly from John Hale scored Patton who reached on a single (3-2).

Parker Szush replaced Billings on the mound in the top of the sixth inning where the Mountaineers brought in two more runs to extend their lead again (5-2). Back-to-back doubles from Patton and Cade Morgan scored a run for the Hawks to cut the game to two runs and a two-run single from Baron Brack tied the game at five.

The Mountaineers seventh inning secured a big lead with six runs off of 3 hits and one error by the Hawks (11-5). More doubles from Brack and Phillips for Huntingdon scored one more run as the game headed to the ninth inning. In the ninth, Berea remained scoreless, and the Hawks looked to make a late comeback but, the Hawks were only able to score two more runs before the close of the game (12-8).

The Hawks return to action tomorrow March 26th for their final game in the series with Berea College at 1:00 PM CST on Neal Posey Field.
