Hawks Complete Sweep of Maryville

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Huntingdon (16-8 overall, 5-3 CCS) defeated Maryville (14-8 overall, 0-6 CCS) in the final game of the weekend series, 10-6.

With Michael Driver starting on the mound for the Hawks, he held the Scots to two hits and no runs across the first two innings while Huntingdon went to work at the plate. In the bottom of the first with the bases loaded, Maryville threw a wild pitch to score the first run of the game (1-0). After a failed pick off attempt in the second inning, Seth Killam stole second and Hall Billings walked across the plate (2-0). Killam found himself following shortly after with another spotted run by the Scots off a wild pitch (3-0).

The momentum shifted in the third inning after Maryville hit a two run single and two run home run to take the lead at 4-2.

In the top of the sixth Parker Szush relieved Driver on the mound and held off the Scots until the ninth inning. Colin Whibbs hit a single to get on base and was brought in by Matthew Robinson to tie the game at four in the seventh inning.

Six runs from the Hawks in the eighth inning lifted them past the Scots. Billings began the inning with a double to left field and Scots pitcher walked the next two batters to load the bases. Jabez Sampson earned and RBI off a single and Maryville replaced their pitcher. A sacrifice fly from Whibbs scored the next run for the Hawks and the last three runs were sponsored by a walk and two singles from Cade Morgan and Billings (10-4).

The Scots looked to make a comeback in the top of the ninth as they scored two runs, but Tucker Duke came to the mound to secure the last out of the game for the Hawks.
