Hawks Split Series Opener with Belhaven

JACKSON, Miss. – Huntingdon (20-9 overall, 6-4 CCS) split with CCS opponent Belhaven (18-15 overall, 10-4) in today's doubleheader.

Game One : Huntingdon 6 – Belhaven 1

Parker Szush earned his third win on the mound for the Hawks this season after only allowing 5 hits and one run across a complete nine innings.

The first run of the game came in the top of the third inning when Matthew Robinson singled to left field to bring in Jabez Sampson who reached off a double (1-0).

The fourth inning claimed the win for the Hawks as Noah Phillips singled to get on and Christian Lasecki followed with a single of his own. With runners on the corners, Daniel Phillips hit a sacrifice fly to left field that scored N. Phillips (2-0). Two walks loaded the bases for the Hawks and Robinson hit a three run double to boost Huntingdon up by 5.

Szush continued to hold off the Blazers until the ninth inning when they tried to make a comeback after a triple that would later score. The Hawks final run came from an N. Phillips sacrifice fly that scored Robinson.

Game Two : Huntingdon 3 – Belhaven 4

The Blazers found themselves on top early in the first inning after scoring two runs off of four hits on starting pitcher Hall Billings (2-0).

Adding one more run in the bottom of the fourth, Belhaven was on top 3-0 as the Hawks struggled to score a run.

In the top of the seventh the Hawks began to make a comeback as Daniel Phillips singled to the shortstop and Jabez Sampson singled to advance Phillips. Matthew Robinson brought in Phillips in his next at bat off of a single of his own (3-1).

With Billings still on the mound he held off the Blazers from scoring any runs for the remainder of his nine innings. Huntingdon scored one run in the eighth and in the ninth to tie the game at three runs and push for an extra inning.

Seth Killam came to the mound in relief of Billings to close out the game and after a walk and single the Blazers earned the walk off win for game two.

The Hawks return to action in Jackson, Mississippi tomorrow for the final game of the series with Belhaven at 1:00 PM CT.
