Walk Off Win Claims Game One for the Hawks Against Piedmont

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Huntingdon (21-9 overall, 7-4 CCS) defeated Piedmont (19-14 overall, 5-7 CCS) in game one of their weekend series 7-6.

Parker Szush earned his third start on the mound for the Hawks after pitching six innings and coming off CCS Pitcher of the Week accolades.

The scoring began in the top of the second as Piedmont hit a two-run triple to right field to take the 2-0 lead over Huntingdon. The Hawks responded in the bottom of the third inning with four runs of their own. With the bases loaded after two walks and a single from Christian Lasecki, Jabez Sampson brought in the Hawks first run of the night with a single. Colin Whibbs sacrifice fly scored Lasecki and a two-run double from designated hitter, Matthew Robinson put the Hawks on top by two (4-2).

The Lions had a big fourth inning with four hits and three runs to hop back on top by one (5-4). However, Lasecki found himself crossing the plate again after reaching on a single and advancing to second, Sampson's single soared him across to tie the game at 5.

After two hits in the top of the seventh, Szush was relieved by Seth Killam who earned his first win of the season. He held the Lions off after they scored their last run off a sacrifice fly.

The Hawks kept looking for a run to at least tie the game and send it to extra innings. But in the bottom of the ninth with a new Lions pitcher on the mound, Daniel Phillips reached on an error and Colin Whibbs walked. With Robinson back at the plate, a one run double tied the game again at six runs. With only one out and two on base, Piedmont intentionally walked Daniel Phillips to try and force an out and bring Cade Morgan up to bat. Morgan hit a sacrifice fly for the walk off win that brought in Whibbs for the final Hawks run.
