Hawks Fly Past Maryville to Advance in CCS Tournament

LAGRANGE, Ga. – The Hawks (24-13 overall) defeated Maryville College (24-16 overall) in their second game of the CCS tournament to hand the Scots their first loss with a score of 13-1.

Tonight, the Hawks were led by sophomore pitcher, Parker Szush who has been named to the CCS Second-Team All-Conference and has even been named pitcher of the week this year. Szush pitched a complete game with four strikeouts while only giving up seven hits and one run. After the Scots lone run in the first inning, Szush would not allow for any follow up runs as his team went to work at the plate for a total of 13 runs.

With two one run singles in the top of the first inning, by Daniel Patton and Noah Phillips, the Hawks found themselves up 2-1 heading to the second.

Cade Morgan quickly bumped the lead to 6-1 with a GRAND SLAM over the left field fence in the top of the second inning as his teammates reached on a bunt, single, and error from the Scots. With momentum on the Hawks side, their next run came from another homerun, this time from Daniel Phillips to score himself and Hall Billings, who singled up the middle (8-1).

Huntingdon was not able to find a scoring rhythm again until the eighth inning, but that wouldn't be a problem for Szush as he continued to hold off Maryville.

In the eighth, ANOTHER homerun by a third Hawk, Matthew Robinson, scored two runs for an eight-run lead heading into the final inning of the night (10-1).

With the bases loaded after two singles and a hit by pitch, the Scots walked Robinson for another Hawk run and a two-run double by senior, Patton boosted the lead to 13-1 as the Hawks headed to the field to close out the game defensively.
