Hawks Run Rule Covenant to Stay Alive in CCS Tournament

LAGRANGE, Ga. – The Hawks (25-13 overall) defeated Covenant College (16-18 overall) in the Collegiate Conference of the South Tournament with a score of 11-1.

Both the Hawks and Scots defense held tight throughout the first two innings. With Michael Driver on the mound for Huntingdon, his pitching glided the Hawks to victory as he pitched the complete game with seven strikeouts.

In the bottom of the third the Hawks offense lit up after a single from Cade Morgan and double from Colin Whibbs. Matthew Robinson snuck a two-run double down the left field line for the first two runs of the game. With two runners on after Noah Phillips was hit by a pitch, Hall Billings launched a homerun over the left field fence to boost the lead to 5-0.

The Scots sponsored the Hawks next run with a wild pitch to bring Whibbs across the plate in the fourth and three hits in the fifth led to three more Hawk runs. A two-run single from Daniel Phillips and a sacrifice fly by Morgan left the Scots down by nine as they looked to add a run to the board.

Covenant's solo homerun in the seventh gave them their only run of the night as Driver took care of business (9-1).

After three quick outs in the top of the eighth, Huntingdon looked to gain a ten-run advantage to end the game early with an RBI single from Matthew Robinson and N. Phillips.
