Hawks Drop Battle With Emory University In 14 Innings

MONTGOMERY,Ala. On the final day of the Firehouse Classic, Huntingdon baseball (2-2 overall) dropped a 14 inning dual with the Eagles of Emory University 10-3. The Hawks fell behind early, but found life in the 8th inning to force the game into 5 extra innings.

 

Highlights

  • Neither team found any offense through the first four innings, with the defenses from each squad stunting any offensive potential. Emory allowed two hits to this point, but the Hawks didn't allow any.

  • The Eagles got on the board first with a single in the top of the fifth inning bringing in two runs

  • Emory earned their third run of the day in the top of the eighth inning with a sacrifice fly to center field

  • With their backs against the wall, Huntingdon answered. Christian Lasecki drove a single into left field and John Hale, taking advantage of a fielding error from the Eagles, found his way home for Huntingdon's first run of the day

  • After keeping Emory off the board to start the ninth inning, Huntingdon managed to even the score with a double from Matthew Robinson bringing home Cade Morgan and Daniel Patton following Robinson with a double of his own to bring home Dylan Hyder to even the score at 3, forcing extra innings

  • The defenses dominated the 10th, 11th, 12th, and 13th innings of this game, with neither squad being able to find their way to home plate.

  • Emory opened the 14th inning with an offensive tear, earning 7 runs on 4 hits to command a 10-3 lead

  • The Hawks weren't able to get on the board in the final frame, taking a 10-3 loss 

 

On the mound

  • #45 JB Landrum earned the start for the Hawks. The Freshman performed exceptionally well, allowing two runs on 1 hit through 4 and a half innings

  • #10 Seth Killam took over for Landrum, allowing 1 run on 4 hits

  • #31 Waylon Farr followed Killam in the ninth inning, not allowing any runs on two hits

  • #14 Gavin Gomez took the mound in extra innings, throwing 51 total pitches with 4 strikeouts to keep the Hawks alive

  • #47 Dylan Golden followed Gomez on the mound, not allowing any hits despite the Eagles scoring 4 runs

  • #7 Chris McGiboney finished the contest for Huntingdon, allowing 2 runs on three hits 

 

The Hawks look to bounce back on February 23rd at home against Vermont State. Gametime is scheduled for 12:00 PM CT.
