Hawks Take Down Vermont State- Castleton

MONTGOMERY,Ala.- Huntingdon baseball (3-2 overall) took down the Vikings of Vermont State- Castleton 12-3 on the first day of the Firehouse Classic. The Hawks dominated defensively, not allowing the Vikings to gain any momentum and capitalizing on their errors.

 

Highlights

  • Following a scoreless first inning, a passed ball allowed for Matthew Robinson to bring home the first run of the day

  • Vermont State responded with a single rbi shot to right field to even the score at 1 in the top of the third.

  • Another Viking single in the top of the third brought home a run to give Vermont State a 2-1 lead

  • Noah Phillips drove in a single to center field in the bottom of the third inning, bringing home his twin Daniel Phillips

  • Daniel Patton followed Phillips with a single of his own, allowing for Noah Phillips to score, giving the Hawks a 3-2 lead

  • After a scoreless fourth inning, Byron McClain ripped a shot down the first baseline, bringing home Matthew Robinson to extend the lead to 4-2

  • Not done yet, Daniel Patton brought in a run off of a sacrificial hit from Jabez Sampson to make the score 5-2

  • In the bottom of the sixth inning, Matthew Robinson was able to bring Daniel Phillips in to push the lead to 6-2

  • Still pushing, Daniel Patton hit a sacrifice fly to center field that brought in Cade Morgan for the Hawks 7th run of the day

  • Not done yet, Byron McClain singled to centerfield, allowing Matthew Robinson to bring the score to 8-2

  • The Vikings final run of the day came in the top of the 7th inning, cutting the Hawk's lead to 8-3

  • Following a run from Christian Lasecki, Noah Phillips doubled to right field,bringing home Cade Morgan and Daniel Phillips to give the Hawks a 12-3 victory.

 

On the mound

  • #26 Michael Driver started the game for the Hawks, striking out 6 batters while allowing 3 runs on 7 hits

  • #38 Jackson Joiner finished the game for the Hawks, only allowing two base hits and no runs

 

The Hawks look forward to a battle with Mt. Saint Joseph on February 24th at home. Gametime is scheduled for 4:00 PM CT.
