Hawks Enter CCS Tournament As 5th Seed, Set To Battle Belhaven In First Round

MONTGOMERY,Ala.- The Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS) has announced the full six-team, double elimination bracket for the second CCS Baseball Tournament that will take place May 8-11 at Scotland Yard on the campus of Maryville College.

Maryville enters this year's tournament as the top seed with an impressive 26-13 overall record and a dominant 14-3 performance in CCS play, clinching their first-ever regular-season title. The Scots' remarkable season includes a 13-game winning streak, their longest in recent history. Hosting this year's tournament, Maryville kicks off postseason action on Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. against sixth-seeded Covenant, who are entering the tournament with a record of 15-24 overall and 6-11 in conference play.

Belhaven secured the second seed in the CCS Tournament with a 23-15 overall record and a solid 12-5 performance in CCS games. The Blazers are hungry for their inaugural CCS Baseball championship title and will commence their postseason journey at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday against fifth-seeded Huntingdon.

Piedmont, earning the third seed with a 25-15 overall record and a commendable 12-6 in CCS play, aims to defend their championship title. They start their quest on Wednesday at 7 p.m. against fourth-seeded LaGrange (8-10 CCS), who secured their spot with a 2-1 series win against Huntingdon in the regular season.

The winners of the opening round games progress to the quarterfinals at 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m., while the non-advancing teams have games scheduled at 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. The remaining teams will determine the bracket for the semifinals and final rounds.

The Hawks enter the tournament being led by their twin set of outfielders, Daniel and Noah Phillips. Daniel holds a .316 batting average while Noah leads the team with an average of .379. The two lead the team in stolen bases, with Daniel having 12 and Noah having 11, while Daniel is second on the roster in home runs on the season with two.

Designated Hitter and freshman Davis Johnson has also showed confidence at the plate as of late, securing a batting average of .316 with 7 doubles in 25 games for the Hawks.

On the mound, Huntingdon looks to the leadership of senior Seth Killam. Formerly an all-conference selection, Seth boasts an ERA of 3.69 with 7 wins and 1 save on the year.
