Titans Take Down Hawks in Opener

Montgomery, Ala.-After a back and forth battle, Huntingdon Football couldn't complete the comeback, falling 28-24 to Wisconsin-Oshkosh.

The Hawks came out strong, with QB Landon Cotney rushing for a 75-yard touchdown. Less than a minute later, Oshkosh returned the favor with a 35-ard touchdown rush. The back and forth scoring continued into the second quarter, with the Cotney completing a pass to Malachi Harvey for a 55-yard touchdown. Oshkosh scored on the kickoff with a 58 yard kickoff return.

In the 3rd quarter, tied 14-14, Cotney completed a 15-yard pass to Dylan Killingsworth for a touchdown. A 2 minute drive from Oshkosh ended with a two yard rush for a touchdown.

In the 4th quarter, Will Edwards kicked a 40-yard field goal for the Hawks to take the lead 24-21. Huntingdon couldn't maintain the lead and gave up a touchdown at 5:52 mark.

"We're obviously very disappointed, heartbroken. We had a lot of guys play really hard and really well. We had our chances," Head Coach Mike Turk said. "We had some opportunities we didn't take advantage of."

"I'm proud of the effort and looking forward to how these guys respond next week," Turk said.

Cotney was 15-32 with 187 passing yards. He also rushed for 164 yards on 17 attempts.

"I feel like we had a good game plan. The coaches realized we can do both [rushing and throwing]," Cotney said. "We came out here and fought hard."

"We're going to watch film, put this one behind us, and prepare for the next game," Cotney said.

The Hawks will be back in action next Saturday, September 11, at 6pm to take on Birmingham Southern at Charles Lee Field at Samford Stadium.
