Hawks to Face BSC in Round 1 of Playoffs

Montgomery, Ala.-The Huntingdon Football Team will travel to Birmingham on Saturday, November 20, to face Birmingham Southern College in round 1 of the NCAA DIII Playoffs. Kickoff is scheduled for 12 PM CST.

This will be Birmingham Southern's first trip to the playoffs and first time hosting the playoffs. BSC earned a Pool C (at-large) bid into the DIII playoffs.

For Huntingdon, this will be their 6th trip overall. In 2019, The Hawks defeated Berry in round 1 but fell to Mary Hardin-Baylor in round 2. 

The Hawks are coming off an 8-2 season, including a preseason loss to BSC on 9/11. After a 48-9 loss to Birmingham Southern, the Hawks turned around to go 8-0 in conference.

"BSC is a team that we know a lot about and they're a really good program," Head Coach Mike Turk said. "We're rivals in pretty much every sport. It should be fun."

BSC went 9-1 overall and 6-1 in conference. The Panthers average 40.3 points per game while allowing an average of 10.3 points per game. 

"The fact that there are 2 schools in the state of Alabama in the Division III playoffs is cool. There didn't used to be 2 schools in the state that were Division III or going to the playoffs," Coach Turk said.

"These guys believed in each other, kept fighting and it hasn't always been pretty but it's exciting to turn it around and get back into the playoffs," Coach Turk said.

The winner of this matchup will face the winner between Trinity & Mary Hardin Baylor in the 2nd round of the playoffs.
