Hawks Fall to Piedmont

Demorest, Georgia – The Hawks, now 1-18 overall and 0-7 in the CCS fell to the Scots (9-9, 3-3) in their conference matchup 98-73.

A Lions 8-0 run to begin the game set the tone. The Hawks freshmen were able to add four points to the board with a made layup from Myles Murphy and free-throws from Rashawn Knox (10-4). Another run by Piedmont left the Huntingdon down by 12 at the halfway point in the first half (19-7). Huntingdon refused to be shut down as they went on a 7-0 run of their own to bring the game back within single digits (19-14). The Lions continued to score and bring their lead back to 13 with a made layup with 7:45 remaining in the half (29-16). The Hawks fought for quick shots, but the Lions nailed two three point baskets in back to back possessions (35-20). Both teams traded a few buckets in the final five minutes but a made three at off a Hawks turnover gave Piedmont the lead at the half, 49-30.

Key First Half Stats:

DaQuan Hawkins led the team with ten points, shooting 2-5 from three and 4-4 from the foul line.

Piedmont shot 54.8% from the field while the Hawks shot 28.6%.

Piedmont doubled the number of threes the Hawks made with 6.

 

The first ten minutes of the second half was claimed by Piedmont as they shot 60% from the field and took their largest lead of the night (70-38). Huntingdon began to heat up from behind the arc, going 3-4 in two minutes (79-55). Both teams went back and forth for the final seven minutes with Piedmont scoring 19 points and the Hawks scoring 18 to close out the game.

Key Second Half Stats:

Freshman, Myles Murphy led the team with ten points.

The Hawks increased their number of made threes by five.

The Lions shot 60% from the field.

The second half score was 49-43, Piedmont.
