Hawks tied for 4th entering final round of Jekyll Island Collegiate

JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. – The Huntingdon men's golf team dropped three spots after the second round of the Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational on Saturday.

After being tied for first with a 289 on Friday, Huntingdon shot 306 on Saturday and is tied with Methodist and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps for fourth at 595. LaGrange leads the 30-team tournament at 578, Illinois Wesleyan is second at 584 and Oglethorpe is third at 589.

"The guys hung tough after a poor start today," Huntingdon Director of Golf Dave Schreyer said. "While we are quite a bit behind LaGrange, we will be in the last group with the No. 2, No. 3 and No. 9 teams in the nation on Sunday. I think the final round should be fun and I am looking for the boys to take up the fight."

Methodist's Mason Stutler leads the individual scores at 8-under-par 136. Huntingdon freshman Mac Harris is 10 strokes off the lead and tied for 13th at 2-over 146. Harris shot a 1-over 73 in each of the first two rounds.

Sophomore Will Thrash is one stroke behind Harris and tied for 17th at 3-over 147 and sophomore Garrett Harrison is tied for 34th at 5-over 149.

Junior David James shot 153 in the first two rounds and freshman Peter Scrimgeour shot 158.

The final round of the tournament is set for Sunday.
