Men's Lacrosse Earns First Win of Season at Centenary

Shreveport, La.-Huntingdon Men's Lacrosse defeated Centenary, 15-14, earning their first win of the season.

Centenary scored 2 goals at 9:30 and 5:25 in the first quarter to take a 2-0 lead before Huntingdon answered with 2 goals of their own by Paul Gordon and Ryan Campion. Centenary took a 3-2 lead at 4:25 of the first quarter.

At 13:36 of the second quarter, Ian Bruggeman tied the game at 3. Centenary added another goal at 6:31 before Gordon and Bruggeman each scored their second goal of the game at 2:30 and 2:09 respectively, taking a 5-4 lead into halftime.

Centenary tied the game at 5 at 14:02 of the second quarter and added their 6th goal at 8:26. Bruggeman added 2 more goals at 11:51 and 8:16, giving the Hawks a 7-6 lead. Centenary added 3 goals to close out the 3rd quarter, taking a 9-7 lead.

In the 4th quarter, Centenary added 2 goals to take an 11-7 lead. Bruggeman, Campion, and Kole Andres each scored to bring the Hawks within 1. Centenary scored their 12th goal at 6:04 before Andres and Gordon scored at 5:45 and 5:36 to make it 12-12. Centenary scored at 3:50 but Campion scored twice at 3:09 and the game-winning goal at 1:26, and Gordon scored his fourth goal at 1:53 to give the Hawks a 15-13 lead. Centenary added their 14th goal but the Hawks held on for the win.

Ryan Campion had 4 goals on 9 shots while Paul Gordon had 4 goals on 8 shots. Goalkeeper Jesse Thomas earned the win, making 20 saves on 34 shots.

"It was good to see the team battle through moments of adversity, however, we are still a long way away from playing like a team and maximizing our abilities," Head Coach Andrew Carey said. "I am thrilled to break down this weekend's film and continue to work together as we prepare for our home opener vs. BSC."

The Hawks are back in action on Tuesday, February 22nd, when they take on Birmingham Southern at 7:00 PM CST in their home opener.
