Hawks Drop Road Contest At Piedmont
DEMORREST,Ga.- Huntingdon men's lacrosse(3-10 overall, 1-4 USA South) fell to the Lions of Piedmont University(10-2 overall, 3-1 USA South) 23-4 in a road matchup. A massive third quarter for the Lions allowed for them to pull away in the second half and take the victory.
Highlights
First Quarter
- Piedmont opened the game with a goal inside of the opening minute to take a 1-0 lead
- Kelcey Marston responded at the 12:15 mark with an unassisted goal of his own to tie the game
- The Lions closed the quarter with four unanswered goals to hold a 5-1 lead entering the second quarter
Second Quarter
- The Hawks struck first in the second quarter with consecutive goals from Kelcey Marston and Gage Kettlewell cutting the deficit to 5-3 by the 12:43 mark
- Not to be outdone, Piedmont responded with three unanswered goals to push their lead back to 8-3 at the 8:24 mark
- Huntingdon continued to battle, with AJ Piazza scoring at the 5:40 mark off an assist from Brady Moulton to put the Hawks behind 8-4
- A 2-0 Lion run closed the first half with the Hawks trailing 10-4
Third Quarter
- Piedmont kicked off the second half on an offensive tear, scoring five goals in the first six minutes of the third quarter to hold a 14-4 lead by the 9:25 mark. This run would continue throughout the rest of the period, with the Lions scoring a total of eleven unanswered goals to enter the final period with a 21-4 lead
Fourth Quarter
- In the final quarter of play, Huntingdon got eleven shots away, but they were unable to capitalize. Piedmont put in two more goals to put the Hawks away 23-4
The Hawks return to action on April 13th at home against Methodist University. Gametime is scheduled for 1:00 PM CT.
