Huntingdon splits with Hiram in doubleheader

MONTGOMERY, Ala.  – The Huntingdon softball team won the first game and lost the second game in a doubleheader with Hiram College on Sunday.

The Hawks beat the Terriers 7-2 in the first game before falling 4-2 in the final game.

Huntingdon took control quickly in Game 1, scoring four runs in the first inning, two runs in the third inning and one run in the fifth inning. In Game 2, the Hawks rallied from a 2-0 deficit with two runs in the third inning before the Terriers regained the lead in the fourth inning.

Lydia Lewis and Hannah Sims combined for seven hits, three RBIs, three runs and three stolen bases in the doubleheader. Lewis was 4-for-7 with two runs and two stolen bases and Sims was 3-for-8 with three RBIs, a run and a stolen base.  

In Game 1, Sims was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run, Caitlyn Caffee scored two runs and had one RBI and Sydney Conville had one RBI and one run. Mollie Singleterry and Hannah Vines each had one RBI and Michaela Denney, Lewis and Madison Perryman each scored one run. Lewis also had two stolen bases.

Madison Hunt (5-1) earned the win with her fourth complete game in six starts this season. Hunt struck out four, scattered six hits, allowed one earned run and did not issue a walk in seven innings.

In Game 2, Sims drove in both Huntingdon runs with a double in the third inning. Lewis was 2-for-4 with a run, Emma Spurlin scored one run and McKayla Wilson was 2-for-4 with a double.

Lauren Melton (0-1) took the loss in relief.
