Hawks Earn First 2 Wins of Season over Centre

Montgomery, Ala.-Huntingdon Softball defeated Centre, taking the first game, 6-1 and the second game, 2-0.

Game 1:

The Hawks opened the scoring in the first inning when Bailey Murphy singled in Natalie Ritchey. In the second inning, Ritchey had a an RBI double to left center.

Emily Nieuwstraten tripled in the third inning and scored, giving the Hawks a 3-0 lead. Anna Vaughn scored on a wild pitch in the third inning. Nevaeh McIntyre had an RBI single to center to give the Hawks a 5-0 lead. Lydia Lewis scored when Emma Bauer attempted to steal second, giving the Hawks a 6-0 lead.

Centre's only run came on a solo homerun in the top of the 7th.

Natalie Ritchey was 3-4 with 1 run and 1 RBI. Holly Sharp pitched a complete game, allowing 1 run on 6 hits with 2 walks and 2 strikeouts. 

Game 2:

The Hawks only runs came in the third inning when Natalie Ritchey singled to the shortstop and advanced to second on an error, scoring Emma Spurlin and Lydia Lewis and advancing Emma Bauer to third.

Crimson Wells earned the win, pitching 7 innings and allowing only 1 hit with 3 strikeouts.

The Hawks travel to Birmingham Southern for a double header on Wednesday, February 16th. First pitch is set for 4:00 PM CST.
