Hawks Fall to LeTourneau, Take Down #5 BSC

Birmingham, Ala.-Huntingdon Softball split on day 2 of the Birmingham-Southern Tournament, falling 4-2 to LeTourneau and defeating #5 BSC 9-4.

Game 1 vs LeTourneau:

LeTourneau led off in the first inning with a 2-run homerun. In the 6th inning, Annie Nolan was hit by pitch with the bases loaded to bring in the Hawks first run. Anna Vaughn walked in a second run for the Hawks, tying the game. In LeTourneau's half of the 6th inning, they added 2 more runs with an RBI single and a sacrifice bunt.

Brooke Stefankiewicz was 1-2 with a run and Annie Nolan was 1-2 with 1 RBI. The Hawks collected 5 hits and 2 walks. Holly Sharp suffered the loss, pitching 5.0 innings and allowing 4 runs on 8 hits with 5 strikeouts. 

Game 2 vs BSC:

Bailey Murphy gave the Hawks a 1-0 lead in the 2nd inning with an RBI single. In the 3rd inning, Annie Nolan's RBI single gave the Hawks a 2-0 lead. 

BSC added a run in the third on a fielder's choice but the Hawks answered in the 4th inning. Bailey Murphy scored on a pass ball before Natalie Ritchey grounded out to the pitcher, scoring Lydia Lewis to make it 4-1. 

Annie Nolan's RBI single in the 4th made it 5-1. BSC added 2 runs with a double in the bottom of the 4th and a sacrifice fly made it 5-4. 

In the 6th inning, Emily Nieuwstraten hit a 2-run homerun to center field, giving the Hawks a 7-4 lead. Bailey Murphy had an RBI double followed by an RBI single to center by Nevaeh McIntyre, making it 9-4.

The Hawks collected 14 hits with 3 walks. Annie Nolan was 3-4 with 2 RBI. Bailey Murphy was 3-4 with 2 runs and 2 RBI. 

Katelyn Holcombe earned the win after pitching 3 innings and allowing 4 runs on 5 hits with 3 strikeouts. Crimson Wells collected the save, pitching 4 innings and allowing no runs on 5 hits.

The Hawks are back in action when they host Millsaps and Mt. St. Joseph on Saturday and Sunday, February 26th and 27th. Saturday's first game against Millsaps is scheduled for 2:00 PM CST.
