Hawks Split with Covenant

Montgomery, Ala.-Huntingdon Softball split with Covenant, dropping game 1, 5-1, and taking game 2, 6-4. The Hawks are now 3-1 to start conference play. 

Game 1:

The Hawks dropped game 1, 5-1.

Covenant got on the board early with a 2-run homerun in the first inning. The Hawks added a run in the 2nd inning with a sacrifice fly by Bailey Murphy.

Covent added 2 runs in the top of the third inning with a fielder's choice and an error. An RBI single extended the Scots' lead to 5-1 in the top of the 6th. The Hawks collected just 5 hits.

Crimson Wells suffered her second loss of the season, pitching 2.0 innings and allowing 4 runs on 6 hits. Holly Sharp pitched 5.0 innings and allowed 1 run on 5 hits with 3 strikeouts.

Game 2:

The Hawks defeated Berea, 6-4, in game 2.

Covenant took a 2-0 lead in the second inning and added 2 more runs in the third inning. Emma Bauer got the Hawks on the board in the 4th inning with an RBI single. Annie Nolan was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to make it 4-2. Anna Vaughn's 3-RBI double gave the Hawks a 5-4 lead in the fourth inning. Miranda Treadway had an RBI single to extend the lead to 6-4.

Holly Sharp earns the win, pitching 4.0 innings and allowing no runs on 2 hits. Emily Nieuwstraten was 2-2 with 1 run and 1 walk. Lydia Lewis was 1-2 with 1 run and 1 walk. Anna Vaughn was 1-3 with 3 RBI and 1 run.

The Hawks travel to Berea on Saturday, April 2nd. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 11:00 AM CST.
