Hawks Split with Piedmont

Montgomery, Ala.-Huntingdon Softball split with Piedmont, losing game 1, 13-6, and winning game 2, 6-5 in 8 innings.

Game 1:

The Hawks dropped game 1, 13-6.

Piedmont took a 1-0 lead in the first inning with an RBI single. Emily Nieuwstraten had an RBI bunt single and advanced on a throwing error, tying the game at 1. Natalie Ritchey scored on a wild pitch to give the Hawks a 2-0 lead.

Piedmont added 3 runs in the third inning and 4 runs in the fifth inning to take a 8-2 lead. Natalie Ritchey had a 2-RBI double in the bottom of the 5th, making it 8-4. Anna Vaughn reached on an error and brought in a run, making it 8-5. Piedmont added 3 more runs in the 6th inning, making it 11-5. Dani Holt had a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 6th to make it 11-6. Piedmont had a 2-run homerun in the 7th and secured the 13-6 win.

Brooke Stefankiewicz was 2-3 with 2 runs and a walk. Natalie Ritchey was 3-4 with 2 RBI and 2 runs. The Hawks totaled 8 hits. 

Crimson Wells suffered the loss, pitching 6.1 innings and allowing 10 runs on 11 hits with 2 strikeouts.

Game 2:

The Hawks won game 2, 6-5, in 8 innings. 

Piedmont took a 4-0 lead into the 4th inning when the Hawks' offense came to life. Hailey League walked with the bases loaded in the 4th inning to make it 4-1. Natalie Ritchey was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, making it 4-2.  Anna Vaughn had a 2-RBI single, tying the game at 4. In the 8th inning, Natalie Ritchey walked off the game with an RBI single. 

Katelyn Holcombe pitched a complete game, allowing 5 runs on 7 hits with 4 strikeouts. Natalie Ritchey was 2-4 with 2 RBI. Miranda Treadway was 2-4. Brooke Stefankiewicz was 2-4 with 1 RBI and 1 run. Emma Spurlin was 2-4 with 2 runs. 

The Hawks are back in action at home on Wednesday, April 13th, when they take on LaGrange. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 3:00 PM CST.
