Hawks Split with Wesleyan

Macon, Ga.-Huntingdon Softball split with Wesleyan, dropping game 1, 11-10 and taking game 2, 10-4.

Game 1

The Hawks fell 11-10.

In the first inning, Natalie Ritchey had an RBI groundout to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead. Bailey Murphy had a 2-RBI single in the second inning, extending the lead to 3-0. Natalie Ritchey doubled to left field and brought in the Hawks' 4th run. Miranda Treadway had an RBI single to make it 5-0. Anna Vaughn reached on an error and brought in 2 runs to give the Hawks a 7-0 lead. 

Wesleyan added 2 runs in the bottom of the second with back-to-back RBI singles. A solo homerun for Wesleyan in the third inning made it 7-3. 

In the fourth inning, Natalie Ritchey scored on a wild pitch to make it 8-3. Wesleyan added 3 runs in the bottom of the inning with an RBI single and a 2-RBI double. Anna Vaughn had a 2-RBI single in the 6th inning, giving the Hawks a 10-6 lead. An RBI single for Wesleyan in the bottom of the 6th made it 10-7.

Wesleyan battled back in the 7th inning, starting with a 2-RBI single to make it 10-9. Wesleyan tied the game with an RBI single and won with a bases loaded hit-by-pitch.

Crimson Wells pitched 3.1 innings and allowed 5 runs on 10 hits with 1 strikeouts. Holly Sharp pitched 3.0 innings and allowed 5 runs on 6 hits with 1 strikeout. Natalie Ritchey was 304 with 2 RBI and 3 runs. Emma Bauer was 2-3 with 1 run. 

Game 2

The Hawks won game 2, 10-4.

Anna Vaughn's 2-RBI single in the first inning gave the Hawks an early lead. Hailey League had a 2-RBI double to make it 4-0. Lydia Lewis had an RBI groundout to make it 5-0. Wesleyan added 2 runs in the first inning and 2 runs in the second inning to make it 5-4.

Bailey Murphy had a sacrifice fly in the third inning to extend the lead to 6-4. Natalie Ritchey's RBI double made it 7-4. In the 7th inning, Bailey Murphy's 2-RBI double made it 9-4. Ritchey had a sacrifice fly to secure the 10-4 win.

Holly Sharp earned the win, pitching 6.0 innings and allowing no runs on 4 hits with 5 strikeouts. Anna Vaughn was 2-4 with 2 RBI and 1 run. Bailey Murphy was 3-3 with 3 RBI. The Hawks totaled 10 hits and 4 walks.

The Hawks travel to Maryville on April 23rd and 24th. First pitch on Saturday is set for 10:00 AM CST.
