Hawks Fall to Maryville and Take Down Agnes Scott to Stay Alive in CCS Tournament

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Huntingdon (31-9 overall, 13-3 CCS), fell to Maryville College (26-13 overall, 12-4 CCS) in game three of the CCS Tournament 7-3 which placed them in the loser's bracket to take on Agnes Scott College (13-26 overall, 6-10 CCS) who they defeated 11-2.

Game One: Huntingdon 3 – Maryville 7

With three hits across the first two innings the Hawks struggled to score a run. Maryville had no issue pushing runners across after a three run first inning and a fourth coming in the second to take the early 4-0 lead.

Brooke Stefankiewicz scored the first Hawks run in the top of the third after being walked, Jordan Holman's single scored her. In the fifth, a Maryville error cut the game to two runs for the Hawks (4-2), but a two run sixth inning for the Scots pushed the lead right back to four.

In the top of the seventh, Huntingdon scored their final run with a single from Holman to score Murphy, but it was not enough for a Hawks comeback as they fell and awaited their new opponent for game five of the tournament.

It was not until the top of the fourth that Huntingdon would find their way to the board. Maddie Grace Hubbard reached on an error and stole second. Dani Holt brought her in with a single to center field that tied the game at one run each.

A five run fifth inning sealed the game for Huntingdon who had a slow start. Errors found bases for two Hawks and Brooke Stefankiewicz singled to load the bases for Bailey Murphy. Murphy's two-run double sparked energy for Huntingdon (3-1). A follow-up double from Jordan Holman pushed the lead to four runs. Huntingdon's fifth run of the inning came from sophomore, Miranda Treadway, as she hit a sacrifice fly for Holman to cruise across home (6-1). The Scotties attempted to answer in the bottom of the inning scoring one run.

Sharp held off Agnes Scott for the remainder of the game and the Hawks continued to work offensively. An RBI for Murphy in the sixth and Stefankiewicz scoring on a throw brought Holman back up to the plate where she smacked a homerun over the centerfield fence (9-2).
