Hawks Sweep In-State Rival Birmingham Southern

BIRMINGHAM,Ala.- Continuing their hot streak, Huntingdon softball (14-0 overall) took down our in-state rival, Birmingham Southern(6-7 overall), on the road in a double header, winning the first game 7-3 and the second 3-0. Hawk Pitchers Brooke Cooper and Allie Roberts stole the show, only allowing five hits on the day, maintaining the strong Huntingdon defense as they have all season.

 

Game 1

 

Highlights

  • The Panthers got on the board first with an error bringing in their first run

  • Miranda Treadway responded with a single shot home run to even the score in the top of the second

  • Birmingham Southern earned their final two runs in the bottom of the second, with an error bringing one Panther home and a single to left field bringing home the other

  • Jordan Holman doubled in the top of the third inning, bringing home Kylie Stephens to put the Hawks behind 3-2

  • In the same frame, Miranda Treadway singled to centerfield, allowing Maddie Grace Hubbard to earn the Hawks third and game-tying run

  • After a scoreless fifth and sixth inning, Kylie Stephens broke the ice with a single allowing Brooke Stefankiewicz to score, putting the Hawks ahead 4-3

  • Not done yet, Jordan Holman hit her second double of the game, allowing Kylie Stephens to put the Hawks up 5-3

  • Later in the same inning, an error allowed for Jordan Holman to cross home plate and extend the lead to 6-3

  • For the Hawks final run, Riley Rudick doubled to center field, giving Maddie Grace Hubbard the Hawks 7th and final run of the day

On the mound

  • Allie Roberts remained perfect on the mound with her 6th win of the season. She allowed 3 runs on 1 hit with 1 strikeout

  • Brooke Cooper closed the game for Huntingdon, only allowing one hit and no runs

 

Game two

 

Highlights

  • In this low-scoring contest, Jordan Holman got the Hawks on the board first with a single shot home run to left field

  • In the top of the second, a Kylie Stephens double secured runs from Kamryn Miller and Miranda Treadway, giving the Hawks a 3-0 victory

  • In a game defined by exemplary defense, the Huntingdon pitchers shined. Brooke Cooper earned her second win of the season, allowing just one hit, with Allie Roberts coming in to relieve. Roberts continued her dominance in the circle with only allowing 3 hits in facing 25 batters

 

The Hawks travel to North Carolina on March 9th to compete against Shenandoah in the William Peace Triangle Classic tournament. Gametime is scheduled for 8:30 AM CT.
