Hawks Split Matches At William Peace Triangle Classic

GREENSBORO, Nc.- Huntingdon softball (15-1 overall) traveled to the William Peace Triangle Classic, splitting matches with a win over Denison (2-2 overall) 5-2, and a 12-3 loss to Greensboro (8-4 overall). Pitcher Allie Roberts dominated in the circle against Denison, striking out 17 batters en route to victory, while an offensive explosion from Greensboro in the first inning propelled the Pride to victory.

 

Game 1 vs Denison

 

Highlights

  • For the Hawks first run of the game, Kylie Stephens reached home plate with Maddie Grace Hubbard taking first base on a fielder's choice in the first inning

  • After a scoreless second inning, a double from Jordan Holman brought home Kylie Stephens to give the Hawks a 2-0 advantage going into the fourth inning

  • A sacrifice bunt from Miranda Treadway brought home Kate Dinkel for the Hawks third run in the bottom of the fourth

  • Kylie Stephens followed Treadway with a single to left field, putting the Hawks ahead 4-0 with Miranda Treadway scoring

  • Denison responded with two runs in the 5th and 6th innings to bring the score to 4-2 entering the final inning

  • Still hot, Kylie Stephens flew out to right field, allowing Brooke Stefankiewicz to score the Hawks fifth and final run, giving Huntingdon a 5-2 victory

 

In the circle

  • Allie Roberts earned her 8th win of the season and pitched a complete game. She faced 32 batters, striking out 17 of them. Of her 200 pitches, 122 of them were strikes

 

Game 2 vs Greensboro

 

Highlights

  • To start out the game, Greensboro went on an offensive tear, taking advantage of multiple Huntingdon errors and capitalizing on attempts at the plate to jump out to a 9-0 lead

  • Trying to respond, Bailey Murphy doubled in the third inning, bringing home Brooke Stefankiewicz for the Hawks first run of the game

  • Miranda Treadway and Dani Holt each followed Murphy with singles, bringing in Jordan Holman and Bailey Murphy to put the Hawks behind 9-3 going into the fourth inning

  • To close the game in 5 innings, Greensboro earned three runs to give the Hawks their first loss of the season 12-3

 

In the Circle

  • Brooke Cooper drew the start for Huntingdon, allowing 4 runs on 3 hits

  • Piper Messick followed Cooper in the circle, allowing 5 runs on 3 hits

  • Megan Cochran subbed in for Messick, facing 6 batters and not allowing any hits or runs

  • Aubree Flanagan closed the game for Huntingdon, allowing 3 runs on 6 hits


The Hawks look to bounce back on March 14th in a road double header against #6 ranked Berry College. Games are scheduled for 2:00 and 4:00 PM CT.
