Hawks Sweep Maryville In Conference Opener

MONTGOMERY,Ala.- In their first conference double-header, Huntingdon softball (19-3, overall, 2-0 CCS)) swept the Maryville College Scots(17-9 overall, 2-2 CCS), winning the first game 2-1 and the second 7-6. In the first game, Allie Roberts continued her stellar freshman campaign, earning her 10th career win and only allowing 4 base hits. A two-run homer from Jordan Holman in the second game propelled the Hawks to a narrow victory.

 

Game one 

  • Following two scoreless innings, Bailey Murphy broke the ice with a single shot homerun to put the Hawks ahead 1-0 entering the fourth inning

  • Maryville responded in the fourth inning with a run to even the score

  • In the bottom of the fifth inning, Brooke Stefankiewicz scored to give Huntingdon a 2-1 lead and eventually, the victory

  • Allie Roberts pitched a complete game for the Hawks, allowing 1 run on 4 hits while striking out 8 Maryville batters on the way to the win.

 

Game two

  • In this back and forth affair, the Scots got on the board in the opening frame with a run off a ground out

  • After holding the Hawks scoreless through two innings, Maryville extended their lead to 3-0 with two runs in the top of the third inning

  • In the following frame, the Hawks began to battle back, with a single from Jordan Holman bringing home Elli Lorrance and Kamryn Miller to put Huntingdon behind 3-2

  • At the following at bat, Bailey Murphy followed with a single of her own,bringing home Brooke Stefankiewicz and Jordan Holman to give Huntingdon a 4-3 lead

  • Not to be outdone, Maryville responded with 3 runs in the top of the 6th inning to give the Scots a 6-4 lead

  • In the following frame, Jordan Holmans stepped to the plate and drilled a two-run home run, putting the Hawks ahead 7-6 and giving them a sweep in their first conference series.

On the mound

  • Brooke Cooper earned the start and the victory for Huntingdon, allowing 3 runs on 6 hits

  • Allie Roberts relieved Cooper, allowing 3 runs on 2 hits for the Hawks

The Hawks take on Berea tomorrow, March 24th, for their second conference double-header at home. Games are scheduled for 12:00 and 2:00 PM CT.
