2nd half push comes up short vs Rhodes

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Huntingdon Women's Basketball (2-4 Overall), fall short against Rhodes College (3-2 Overall), 72-69.

 

Highlights

 

First Quarter

  • The opening minutes of the quarter contained back and forth offensive action between both sides. Rhodes was able to tie the game at 6-6 with a layup with 6:47 remaining in the first quarter.
  • With 2:07 remaining in the quarter, Rhodes would hit a free throw in the midst of a 11-0 run, to extend their lead to double digits making the score 17-6. 
  • The Hawks would respond to the run by Rhodes with a jump shot by Briana McGruder with a 1:33 left in the first quarter, cutting the deficit to 19-8. 
  • To close out the quarter, Rhodes hit a jump shot of their own with 1:07 left in the quarter, to extend their lead 21-8.
  • The score at the end of the quarter was 21-8.

 

Second Quarter

  • In the opening minutes of the quarter, both teams would exchange turnovers and defensive possessions. The Hawks would get back on the board by a Faith Johnson jump shot at the 7:17 mark in the quarter.
  • With 6:21 remaining, the Hawks cut their deficit to single digits on the back of a Kinstin Davis shot from deep. This would make the score 24-17.
  • With 3:10 left in the second quarter, Rhodes would hit a lay up to cap off a 9-1 run, extending their lead to 33-18.
  • The score at the end of the second quarter was 38-22.

 

Third Quarter

  • At 5:53 mark, the Hawks would score on back to back possessions to cut the lead to 42-30.
  • With 4:03 left in the third quarter, Rhodes would convert an And One opportunity, to extend their lead to 47-30.
  • The Hawks would start to build some momentum in the quarter by going on a 10-1 run with 1:14 left in the quarter, capped off by Cassidy Campbell free throws, making the score 48-41.
  • At the 0:17 mark, Rhodes would hit a free throw to make the score 51-43.
  • The Hawks would cut the lead to five, by way of a Deshauna Foote three pointer with one second remaining, making the score 51-46 to end the quarter.

 

Fourth Quarter

  • With 7:11 remaining, Makayla Ford hit a shot from deep to cut the Hawks deficit to a single possession to make the score 54-51.
  • At the 4:13 mark, Rhodes hit two free throws to extend their lead to 61-57.
  • Kinstin Davis would hit a game tying jump shot with 1:53 left in the game to make the score, 63-63.
  • With 1:27 left in the game, Rhodes hit a layup to extend their lead to 67-63.
  • With 0:14 remaining, Kinstin Davis would tie up the game with a clutch three pointer, making the score 69-69.
  • Rhodes would hit two free throws with 0:09 left in the game to retake the lead, 71-69.
  • The final score of the game was 72-69.

 

Key Notes

  • Rhodes shot 49% from the field, while hitting on 30% on their three pointers, meanwhile Huntingdon shot 42% from the field, as they landed 42% of their shots from deep.
  • The Hawks shot 50% from the free throw line, while the Lynx drilled 71% of their shots from the line.
  • The Hawks shot 52% from the field in the second half, while going 70% on three pointers.
  • The Hawks outrebounded the Lynx 32-27.
