Hawks Hot Shooting Drowns The Scots
MARYVILLE,Tenn.- Huntingdon women's basketball (7-13 overall, 4-7 CCS) traveled to Tennessee and took down the Maryville Scots (10-10 overall, 8-4 CCS) 73-62.
How it happened
First quarter

The Scots flew out of the gate, taking an 11-2 lead by the 7 minute mark in the first quarter

Briana McGruder put in two layups to cut the Scots lead to 11-6 by the 5:30 mark

Maryville went on a 9-3 run to take a 20-9 lead with a minute and a half left in the quarter

Cassidy Campbell rang home a short jumper to bring the score to 23-13 going into the second quarter
Second quarter

The Hawks opened the second quarter on a massive 10-4 tear, cutting the Maryville lead to 30-25 with 3:45 left until halftime

A jump shot from Lauryn Lyn put the Hawks down 30-29 at the 1:57 mark

Jayla Carter gave the Hawks their first lead of the game, 31-30, with a pair of free throws at the 1:38 mark

Maryville hit a layup to regain the lead, 32-31, but Briana McGruder cashed in on a layup in the final 4 seconds of the half to give Huntingdon a 33-32 lead at the halftime break.
Third quarter

The second half started off highly contested, with the two teams trading baskets until Kinstin Davis drilled a huge three point shot to extend Huntingdon's lead to 40-36 at the 7:13 mark

The Scots would not go down without a fight though, evening the score at 40 at the 5:11 mark

A 5-0 Huntingdon run led by Kinstin Davis and Charity Shaw put the Hawks back ahead by 5, 45-40, with 2:38 remaining in the quarter

Not to be outdone, Maryville battled back and evened the score with a triple to make the score even at 45 with 1:05 remaining in the quarter

Both teams exchanged stops to end the period with the score tied at 45 going into the fourth
Fourth quarter

Huntingdon started the final period of play with an explosive 8-2 run to hold a 53-47 lead with 6:52 to go

Deshauna Foote sunk a pair of free throws to extend Huntingdon's lead to 61-51 with 4:10 to go

Maryville responded with a 5-0 run to cut the lead to 63-59 with 2:35 remaining in the game

The Hawks found a second wind, closing the game with a 10-3 run to secure a 73-62 victory over the Scots
