Hawks Taken Down by Piedmont

Montgomery, Ala.-Huntingdon Women's Lacrosse fell to Piedmont, 15-11.

Dylanie Chappel scored the Hawks' first goal at 13:40 of the first quarter with an assist by Jordan Alvis. Zoe Dezaldivar made it 2-0 just 40 seconds later. Piedmont's first goal of the game came at 12:15 and they tied the game at 8:48. The Lions took a 3-2 lead at 5:33 but Dezaldivar's second goal of the game at 1:49 tied it again at 3. Michaela Haas closed out the first quarter with a goal at 0:45, giving the Hawks a 4-3 lead.

Piedmont scored 3 straight goals to start the second quarter to take a 6-4 lead. Michaela Haas scored at 4:45 to make it 6-5. Piedmont added a goal at 3:05 but Dylanie Chappel scored at 1:42, making it 7-6. A goal by Piedmont with less than a minute left in the second quarter gave the Lions an 8-6 lead going into halftime.

2 goals by Dylanie Chappel to start the third quarter tied the game at 8. Peyton Beachler gave the Hawks a lead at 8:31 with an assist by Celina Owens-Campbell. Piedmont tied the game 9-9 at 7:00 and regained the lead at 6:19. 3 more goals by Piedmont gave the Lions a 13-9 lead. Shelby Blair ended the third quarter with a goal assisted by Owens-Campbell, making it 13-10 going into the fourth quarter.

A goal by Piedmont at 12:34 of the fourth quarter made it 14-10. Shelby Blair's second goal of the game at 11:01 was assisted by Michaela Haas, making it 14-11. Piedmont added another goal at 5:17, securing the 15-11 win.

Morgan Coppini made 6 saves on 14 shots and set a new Huntingdon College record with 342 career saves. Elizabeth Todd made 7 saves on 14 shots. Dylanie Chappel had 4 goals on 5 shots with 2 ground balls. Jordan Alvis had 7 draw controls, 1 assist, and 1 ground ball. Shelby Blair had 2 goals on 2 shots with 1 ground ball and 4 draw controls.

The Hawks are back in action at home against Southern Virginia on Saturday, April 23rd. Game time is set for 12:00 PM CST.
