Hawks Split at Covenant and Earn First CCS Win

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. – Huntingdon Volleyball captured their first win of the season against Agnes Scott College and fell to the reigning CCS Champions, Covenant.

Match One Against Covenant College:

The Hawks fell in their first match against Covenant 3-0.

In the first set the Hawks found themselves down early 8-3. A late comeback attempt with multiple three-point runs was not enough to overcome the Scots (25-15).

The Hawks fought hard in the second set going back and forth, bringing it within one at 7-6. The Scots then landed five straight points to push the lead further. A Hannah Rogers ace and kill from Lindsey Holland brought the set back within three at 13-10 and a huge kill from Eva Ellenburg left the score at 14-12 before Covenant went on another run to solidify the second set victory (25-17).

In the third set, Covenant had nine straight points to capture a 25-6 win.

Match Two Against Agnes Scott College:

The Hawks earned their first Conference win against the Scotties, 3-0.

Three errors from the Scotties boosted the Hawks into a six-point run to take an early 9-2 lead. The 15th point came from a Kennedy Chambers kill that was followed up by two more from teammate, Ashlen Janowski. More errors from the Scotties helped lift Huntingdon's 9 kill set to a 25-13 victory.

The first 10 points of the second set was close as the Scotties tied the Hawks twice before back-to-back errors left them unable to regain ground. Holland and Izzy Valldeperas created distance with three kills at the 19th point and two errors finished off Agnes in the second set 25-20.

A dominating third set boosted the Hawks to their first victory this season. The Scotties three kills with 10 errors put all the momentum with Huntingdon. The Hawks found themselves up 16-3 before Agnes was able to land their first kill. Huntingdon held off the Scotties to take the final set (25-11) and the game.

The Hawks host their first home game of the season on Wednesday against CCS opponent Belhaven at 6:00 PM CT.
