Hawks Split at Piedmont

DEMOREST, Ga. – Hawks Volleyball fell to Berea College and defeated Piedmont University in today's CCS Tri-Match hosted by the Lions: 3-2 and 3-0 respectively.

Game One Against Berea College: 3-2

After a close and hard fought first two sets that resulted in Hawks wins (25-17, 26-24) with 10 and 12 kills in the sets, the Hawks had all the momentum on their side heading into the third set.

The Hawks led 6-5 in the third until the Mountaineers took the lead and held it for their first set win of the match at 25-15.

Berea posted 16 kills in the third and fourth set that outweighed the Hawks and tied the game at 2-2.

Pushing to a fifth set CCS match, the Hawks came out firing with an 11-5 lead in competition to 15. The Mountaineers refused to give up and went on a 6-0 run that tied the game at 13. Two final kills from Berea lifted them over the Hawks with a 16-14 final set score.

Game Two Against Piedmont University: 3-0

Huntingdon swept the Lions 3-0 just as they did in the first round of the CCS Tournament last season.

Three Hawks had nine kills, combining for 27 of the Hawks 39 kills for the game.

In set one, Huntingdon battled against the Lions with 7 ties throughout the set. The Hawks took their largest lead after being tied at 21. The Lions made an attack error and Izzy Valldeperas packed in back-to-back kills for a 25-21 first set victory.

Set two was all Hawks with 12 kills while Piedmont spotted Huntingdon 7 points off of errors. A smooth 25-12 win lifted the Hawks up 2-0 in the match heading to the third set.

After winning the first two sets in game one and falling to the Mountaineers, the Hawks had something to prove. They did so with minimal errors, three and fighting from behind until they took the first lead of the set at the 19th point from a Lions error. Huntingdon closed the game with a six-point run led by Lindsey Holland's service ace that provoked three final errors from Piedmont.

The Hawks travel to MUW on Thursday for a rematch against the Owls at 7:00 PM CT.
