Women's Cross-Country Voted 5th in CCS Preseason Poll

ATLANTA - Piedmont University was tabbed by the Collegiate Conference of the South's Cross Country coaches to claim the 2022 conference title by a narrow margin it was announced by the league office today. The Lions received 60 points overall, and five of the nine first-place votes from the conference's coaches.

Four different programs received at least one first-place vote speaking to the depth of the league's competitiveness in the sport this season. The other programs that received first-place nods were: Berea, Covenant, and Maryville.

Piedmont finished fourth overall at last year's USA South Conference Championship, and returns a group of experienced and talented runners for head coach Jamie Jimison. The Lions kick off their season this Thursday, with the Watermelon Run held at Berry College.

The Lions narrowly edged Maryville for the top spot in this year's poll. The Scots received 53 points and one first-place vote to finish second in the preseason poll. Covenant finshed third in the voting, having received 51 points, including two first-place votes, while Berea finished fourth with 47 points and the other first-place tally.

This fall's CCS Cross Country Championships - both men's and women's events - will take place on Saturday, October 29th in Montgomery, Alabama and be hosted by Huntingdon College.
