2022 USA South Women's Tennis Awards Announced

The USA South Athletic Conference has announced its 2022 All-Conference awards for women's tennis. Individually, Southern Virginia's Paula Snelson was named both Player and Rookie of the Year while Averett's Bert Poole earned Coach of the Year accolades. Also, the USA South recognized an All-Sportsmanship Team, consisting of one member from each competing school.

All awards were voted on by the women's tennis coach at each institution. The divisional team voting was completed only by those coaches in the particular division while the first team all-conference and individual award voting was completed by all coaches.

Snelson, a freshman from Brasilia, Brazil becomes the sixth player in USA South history to be named USA South Women's Tennis Player and Rookie of the Year in the same season. Playing at the number-one singles position this season, Snelson has posted an 12-1 overall record with a perfect 8-0 mark in USA South play. Her overall winning percentage of .923 leads the Conference and she is the only player at the top singles spot to be undefeated in League action while playing at least six matches at that position. For her efforts this season, Snelson earned First Team All-Conference and All-East Division honors while collecting USA South Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week accolades twice each.

Poole, in his seventh year as the head coach of Averett, received his first USA South Women's Tennis Coach of the Year honor and is the first Averett coach since 1999 to receive the accolades. Despite being picked third in the USA South East Division Preseason Coaches Poll, Poole led the Cougars to a perfect 9-0 Conference mark and the program's first regular season title, albeit of a divisional nature, since 2000. Overall, Averett has amassed a 13-4 record and is one win away from setting a program record for victories in a single-season. The Cougars are currently in the semifinal round of the USA South Tournament as the East Division's top-seeded team, seeking the program's first tournament championship.
