Hawks Cross Country Set for CCS Championship

ATLANTA, Ga. – Piedmont University is set to host a spectacular showcase of athletic talent and endurance as the 2023 Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS) Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships returns.

The championship meet is set to take place on Saturday, October 28, 2023, at the prestigious Tallulah Falls School Cross Country Course in Clarkesville, Georgia. This championship event promises an exciting and competitive day of cross country racing, with seven men's and nine women's teams all vying for the coveted CCS crown.

The Tallulah Falls School Cross Country Course provides the perfect setting for this prestigious event, ensuring challenging terrain and a breathtaking backdrop for competitors and fans alike.

Men's Race: 10:00 am

Women's Race: 11:00 am

Men's Cross Country

In an outstanding display of dominance, Berea runners secured the 2022 Collegiate Conference of the South Men's Cross Country Championship title by finishing first, second, and third overall. Luke Wilson led the charge, claiming the top spot with a remarkable time of 24:47.3, more than a minute ahead of the nearest competitor. Wilson's exceptional performance throughout the fall campaign sets the stage for his aspirations at the upcoming NCAA regionals. Berea amassed a score of 33, clinching the championship over Piedmont, who secured second place with 42 points. The Lions had a strong presence in the top ten finishers, led by Layton Bradford in 6th place. Covenant claimed third position with a team score of 70 in a competitive championship race.

Women's Cross Country

In a historic moment, the Piedmont women's cross country team secured the inaugural CCS Championship title, marking the first postseason championship event in the league's history. Jaycie Ponce clinched the individual title, continuing the Lady Lions' streak of three consecutive individual winners. Ponce's remarkable time of 22:51.1, winning by over 10 seconds, placed her just two seconds behind Angel's program-best time set at the 2021 NCAA Championship. Piedmont's exceptional performance, with Anna Gibson and Skyler Seeber also posting top-five finishes, demonstrated their strength and determination. This victory, the first team title for the Lady Lions since 2016, earned Coach Jamie Jimison the CCS Coach of the Year honors.
